Discovery Concert: Bach to the Future©
In 2003, through the generosity of the Verizon Foundation, The Discovery Orchestra (TDO) television show Discovery Concert: Bach to the FutureŠ was released by American Public Television to public television stations across the US. To date, over 80 stations, reaching more than 37 million households, have programmed this educational show. ![]() Peter Ventimiglia Discovery Concert: Bach to the FutureŠ is a one-hour program taped before a live audience at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark, in TDO's unique concert/lecture format. Featuring Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, Third Movement, it highlights why Bach's music has remained as exciting as when it was written. Soloists for the performance were Peter Winograd, first violinist of the American String Quartet and TDO concertmaster, as well as recorder soloists Stephen Hammer and Nina Stern, two of the country's leading players of baroque woodwinds. Deemed "one of the finest conductor/teachers" by Classical New Jersey Magazine, Artistic Director George Marriner Maull introduced the interactive Discovery Concert format in 1997 to enthusiastic audiences. Since then, thousands of concertgoers have attended these educational concerts in which Maestro Maull uses an engaging and entertaining style to help both classical music novices and experienced concertgoers discover the "goose bumps" sensation of music listening. Written and hosted by Maestro Maull, produced by Elise van Stolk and directed by Jeff Friedman, Discovery Concert: Bach to the FutureŠ is presented by American Public Television (APT). For over 40 years, APT has been a major source of programming for the nation's public television stations. APT has more than 10,000 hours of available programming including Discovering the Real World of Harry Potter, Globe Trekker, Muhammad Ali: Through the Eyes of the World, Nightly Business Report, Rick Steves' Europe, Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home, Ballykissangel, Brian Jacques' Redwall and The Three Tenors Christmas. APT is known for identifying innovative programs and developing creative distribution techniques for producers. In four decades, it has established a tradition of providing public television stations nationwide with program choices that enable them to strengthen and customize their schedules.
