In April of 1853 Johannes Brahms began a concert tour with Hungarian violinist Eduard Reményi. Was this the beginning of Brahms love affair with Hungarian musical influences? We can’t know for sure. But what we can know for certain is that the final movement – the Rondo alla Zingarese (Rondo in the Gypsy Style) – of his Piano Quartet No.1 in G Minor will knock your socks off! Discovery Orchestra members violinist Rebekah Johnson, violist Junah Chung and cellist Scott Ballantyne will be joined by pianist Hiroko Sasaki in this exciting performance. After discovering some of the finale’s details during the first half with Maestro Maull and the quartet, all four movements will be played after intermission.
Reception to kick-off our 25th Anniversary Season follows the concert in Mead Hall, a short walk from the concert hall.
